The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel for his recent comments regarding ongoing projects in the state. Daniel, now a senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, claimed in a media chat that he had initiated several projects, including the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport, which were underreported due to "bad press."
The airport project, launched three years ago by the current administration under Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, boasts the longest runway and largest apron in Nigeria and the West African corridor.
In a statement issued by the state APC's Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, the party dismissed Daniel's claims as "a product of hallucination by a serial failure." Oladunjoye asserted that Daniel's administration did not take any concrete steps to develop an airport in Ogun State, describing Daniel's announcement of the project and its proposed location as mere political rhetoric for short-term gains.
Oladunjoye stated, "Gbenga Daniel, after announcing the construction of an airport in 2006, left the earmarked area as a thick forest until 2019 when Prince Dapo Abiodun assumed office. Daniel's successor, Ibikunle Amosun, did not even open the file of the proposed airport during his eight years in office."
He further criticized Daniel's recent remarks about having a grand or master plan for the airport project as "self-ridiculing" and an acknowledgment of his own failure. "His interview and comments on Governor Dapo Abiodun reek of deep envy and an insensitive lack of modesty," Oladunjoye added.
