The Ogun State Government has taken significant steps to enhance security within its borders, donating 25 patrol vehicles to the State Police Command and acquiring surveillance drones to monitor criminal activities. Governor Dapo Abiodun handed over the security kits in the presence of Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of incorporating technology in crime-fighting efforts. He highlighted that acquiring drones was a proactive measure taken in collaboration with neighbouring states, Lagos and Oyo, to monitor activities on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and enhance emergency response. Trained personnel from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Service (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) will operate the drones.
The governor expressed gratitude to the IG for his efforts in law enforcement and effective policing, stating that the donation of patrol vans and support to the Security Trust Fund (STF) would enhance security in the state. He also commended the police under Egbetokun's leadership for repositioning the force for optimal performance and called for the deployment of modern technology to tackle security challenges.
IG Egbetokun praised the governor's innovative approach in acquiring drones, noting that it would bolster security in the state. He urged other states to follow suit in enhancing security within their domains.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed the state's commitment to prioritizing the welfare and security of residents through effective inter-agency cooperation among security agencies. He highlighted his administration's procurement of patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and communication gadgets for security agencies, ensuring that residents can live and conduct business without fear.
