Former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, stirred controversy on Monday when he stated that the physical beauty of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan creates a challenge for her in politics, claiming that men find it difficult to ignore her presence.
Speaking on Arise News, Ogunlewe highlighted that female senators often assert themselves and do not view themselves as inferior to their male counterparts in political discussions. He mentioned how women like Itadewa stand their ground and ensure their voices are heard, without letting gender play a role in their influence.
However, when discussing Akpoti-Uduaghan, he remarked that her beauty posed a unique problem for her. “The beauty of Distinguished Senator Natasha is a problem to her,” Ogunlewe explained, adding that men tend to react differently when an attractive woman enters a room, suggesting that their attitudes and behavior are often influenced by physical appearance.
He further clarified, "When she’s passing, there’s no way a man will not look at that woman. It’s natural for men to notice beautiful women." He defended his perspective by claiming that it was a natural human reaction for men to be drawn to attractive women, though he acknowledged that his comments might be interpreted as misogynistic.
Despite the backlash to his remarks, Ogunlewe stood by his stance, asserting that his views were simply reflective of human tendencies.
