Okada Rider Killed as Overspeeding Mercedes Crashes into Pharmacy in Ibadan

Tragedy struck at Osuntokun Junction, Bodija, Ibadan, on Saturday afternoon as an overspeeding black Mercedes saloon car rammed into a pharmacy, claiming the life of an unidentified okada rider.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m., opposite Zenith Bank, leaving the pharmacy heavily damaged and two customer vehicles parked outside the store also impacted.

Eyewitnesses reported that the car, coming from Osuntokun Avenue, veered off the main Bodija-UI road, crashing into the pharmacy as the okada rider was dropping off a passenger.

“The driver of the Mercedes was severely injured and has been rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH). The body of the okada rider was retrieved inside the shop and taken to UCH morgue,” an eyewitness disclosed.

The condition of the passenger on the motorcycle remains unclear, while the extent of injuries sustained by the driver of the vehicle is yet to be officially confirmed.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) stated that further details would be provided following an investigation.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of overspeeding and the importance of road safety adherence to prevent loss of lives.
