The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 34-year-old man, Monday Elela, for allegedly killing his 14-year-old son, Tope, with the help of his wife. The teenager, known for frequent arrests over theft, was buried in a shallow grave at their residence in Ajowa Akoko.

Elela, who confessed to the crime, claimed he only beat his son as punishment for his repeated criminal behavior but did not intend to kill him. He explained that Tope recently escaped from Amotekun Corps custody and had become a constant embarrassment to the family due to his actions.

According to Elela, after disciplining Tope, the boy appeared fine, ate, bathed, and went to sleep. However, he was found unresponsive the following morning. Fearing the consequences, Elela and his wife buried the boy at their home.

Ondo State Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi stated that investigations are ongoing and that Elela would face prosecution upon conclusion of the inquiry.
