Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's chances of securing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in the upcoming shadow election received a significant boost as 13 out of the 22 APC members in the House of Assembly declared their support for him. The lawmakers, led by Speaker Olamide Oladiji, expressed their preference for Aiyedatiwa to continue as governor beyond 2024 during their visit to the party's National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje in Abuja.

Aiyedatiwa, a former deputy governor who was sworn in as governor on December 27, 2023, following the death of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was praised by the Speaker for carrying all sectors of the state along and continuing with the late Akeredolu's legacies. The lawmakers cited Aiyedatiwa's commitment to paying salaries promptly, recruiting 2,000 health workers, and fostering a harmonious relationship between the legislature, judiciary, and executive as reasons for their support.

Ganduje assured the lawmakers, governorship aspirants, and party members of a fair primary election and commended them for restoring peace to the party. He emphasized the need for cooperation to conduct a transparent primary election in Ondo State, reaffirming the state's status as an APC stronghold. The Speaker reiterated the legislators' support for the governor, highlighting Aiyedatiwa's achievements and commitment to continuing the progress of the APC-led government in Ondo State.
