Retired workers of the Ondo state government have raised concerns over the alleged stoppage of the N10,000 monthly palliative wage award, which they claim has not been received since January this year. The N10,000 palliative wage was initiated by late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as part of measures to distribute federal government palliatives to the states.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Hon. Johnson Osunyemi, appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to reinstate the palliative package to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship. In a letter to the governor, Osunyemi highlighted the importance of the N10,000 in supporting the livelihoods of pensioners, noting that its absence has placed undue financial strain on many pensioners who earn as low as #2000.
Osunyemi also pointed out that the Oyo state government was paying N15,000 to its pensioners as a palliative package and had extended it by one year. He urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to consider reinstating the payment and arrears covering the four months outstanding without further delay, emphasizing that this would honor government obligations to pensioners and alleviate financial hardship. He concluded by expressing hope for a prompt response to their request.
