One Dead in Third Mainland Bridge Accident Amid Heavy Downpour

A fatal accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday morning claimed one life. The crash involved a Mini Truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD). According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident was caused by excessive speeding during heavy rain.

Mr. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, stated that three other individuals were rescued at the scene. The accident occurred near the Unilag waterfront, heading towards Iyana-Oworonsoki.

Despite ongoing efforts to educate drivers on speed limits, Giwa noted that many continue to disregard the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018. He urged drivers to adhere to speed regulations on the Third Mainland Bridge and throughout the state.

The deceased was removed by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and LASTMA cleared the vehicles to restore traffic flow. Giwa extended condolences to the victim's family and stressed the importance of road safety.
