The Osun Amotekun Corps has announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Ayobola Awe, popularly known as “Bishop Awasere,” in the Isokun area of Ilesa.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yusuf Abass.
According to the statement, Awe, who had been on the wanted list of security agencies over alleged involvement in murder and kidnapping, was apprehended alongside his gang members at about 5:59 p.m. on Saturday.
“During the raid, Amotekun operatives recovered hard drugs and a cache of assorted charms believed to be used by the gang for spiritual fortification. We have also launched a manhunt on some gang members who managed to escape during the operation,” the statement read.
The Corps described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime in Osun and neighbouring states.
Meanwhile, security operations by Amotekun in other states have also yielded results. In Ondo, the state chapter of the Corps recently paraded no fewer than 28 suspected criminals arrested across the 18 local government areas, in collaboration with security agencies and local vigilantes.
