Osun Governor’s Associate Remanded for Alleged Terrorism

Olalekan Oyeyemi, a close associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been remanded in the correctional facility in Ile-Ife over alleged terrorism and the killing of four individuals. Known as 'Emir,' Olalekan was appointed by Adeleke as a member of the Disciplinary Committee for Osun State Public Transportation System in 2022.

He was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, on ten charges of terrorism and murder. The police prosecutor, Umar Rabiu, stated that Olalekan committed the offenses on February 27th, August 22nd, and November 28th, 2022, in Osogbo.

According to Rabiu, Olalekan conspired to commit acts of terrorism by being armed with guns, terrorizing APC supporters and residents at various locations in Osogbo, resulting in the deaths of Muraina Olayiwole, Tope, Tajudeen Rabiu, and Oyewale Sharif. He also allegedly blocked a Golf car, narrowly escaping death, and burnt it down based on political differences.

Rabiu noted that these offenses contravene Sections 26(1)(a), 2(2), i, h, of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Olalekan pleaded not guilty, and his counsel filed a formal bail application. The prosecutor requested more time to respond and file a counter bail application.

The presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, ordered Olalekan to be remanded in the Ile-Ife correctional facility and adjourned the hearing of the bail application to March 19th.
