Osun Judiciary Staff Return to Work as Strike Ends

Judiciary staff in Osun have resumed work after the three-month strike called off by the state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria. The strike, which started in November 2023, was aimed at securing better conditions of service and other demands from the government. Workers were seen returning to the High Court Complex on the Osogbo-Ilobu Road as early as 7:30 am, following the union's directive to resume on March 7.

In compliance with the resumption directive, workers were engaged in cleaning courtrooms and offices, with artisans seen cutting overgrown grass. Some lawyers were also spotted driving in and out of the premises, which houses both Magistrate and High Courts. While court sittings did not hold on the resumption day due to the extensive cleaning needed, workers expressed gratitude to the union for prioritizing their interests.

Mrs. Juliet Alabi, an administrative officer in the court, emphasized the need for the full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the union, Osun judiciary, and the state government. She urged for the swift implementation of the MoU for the benefit of all judiciary workers in the state. Meanwhile, lawyer Mr. Jones Olujimi expressed joy at the reopening of courtrooms, noting that pending and fresh cases would now be scheduled for trial or judgment by magistrates and judges.
