The Oyo State Government has demolished three buildings in Ibadan that were allegedly being used as hideouts by criminals and as storage facilities for arms and ammunition.
The affected structures, located within a fenced compound on Arubiewe Road in the Gbendu community, off Olodo-Garage, were brought down on Tuesday following intelligence reports linking them to illegal activities.
Speaking at the site, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Mojeed Mogbonjubola, described the buildings as a major centre for the concealment of weapons and ammunition.
He explained that the decision to demolish the structures was based on a report submitted by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Olugbenga, to Governor Seyi Makinde.
“The instruction came from the governor after receiving the report, and we are carrying out that directive,” Mogbonjubola said.
According to him, the ministry complied with all necessary procedures before commencing the demolition exercise.

The commissioner stressed that the state government would not compromise on security matters, noting that a similar exercise was carried out last week on a building allegedly used by kidnappers involved in the abduction of the sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu.
He said the latest demolition should serve as a warning to individuals involved in criminal activities, adding that the Makinde administration remains committed to flushing out criminal elements from the state.
“This should send a strong message to those engaged in unlawful acts. The governor will not tolerate the activities of criminal elements in Oyo State,” he said.
Mogbonjubola also urged residents to remain vigilant and advised landlords and property agents to properly verify prospective tenants before giving out their properties.
