Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured workers that his administration will swiftly implement the new minimum wage. He made this commitment during the 2024 May Day celebrations at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, where he was represented by his deputy, Mr. Bayo Lawal.
Governor Makinde emphasized that despite the new minimum wage, his government would continue to prioritize the timely payment of salaries and pensions, ensuring that they are disbursed on or before the 25th of every month. He stated that his administration remains dedicated to the welfare of workers and has integrated people-centric policies and programs into its agenda.
Recognizing the pivotal role of labor in driving the state's development, Makinde commended workers for maintaining a harmonious working environment, which has minimized industrial actions. He attributed the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state to the collaborative efforts between his government and labor.
The governor called on workers to reciprocate the government's goodwill by demonstrating increased dedication and commitment to their duties. He urged them to work diligently to earn their wages, emphasizing the need for a strong work ethic to achieve collective goals.
