Oyo State Tertiary Institutions Urge Governor Makinde to Implement Salary Increases

The Joint Action Committee of Oyo State Tertiary Institutions (JAC) has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to implement the 35 percent and 25 percent salary increases for staff of tertiary institutions in the state. The request was made by JAC chairman, Comrade Olusegun Oyewumi, in a statement released to the press in honor of International Worker’s Day.

Comrade Oyewumi commended Governor Makinde for his commitment to his promises and described him as a statesman. He urged the governor to extend the salary increases to tertiary staff, similar to their counterparts at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), who have been enjoying the increases since January.

He stated, “The harsh economic realities have clearly pointed to the need for the government of Oyo State to follow suit with the Federal Government’s implementation of the 35 percent and 25 percent salary increase which, to my knowledge, our respected colleagues at LAUTECH have started enjoying since January."

Addressing Governor Makinde as the Visitor to all tertiary institutions in Oyo State, Comrade Oyewumi emphasized that implementing the salary increases only at LAUTECH since January 2024 was seen as selective treatment, which undermined other institutions. He urged the governor to rectify this disparity and ensure fairness for all institutions.

Comrade Oyewumi concluded by congratulating the staff for their dedication and expressed confidence in Governor Makinde's leadership to address the issue, stating, "He is undoubtedly a father for all."
