PDP Accuses Tinubu of Insensitivity Following Media Chat

APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu's recent media chat, accusing him and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being insensitive to the economic hardships facing Nigerians. In a statement on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described Tinubu's remarks as evidence of the APC's disconnection from the welfare and security of citizens.

The PDP expressed concern over Tinubu's defense of subsidy removal without adequate cushioning measures, blaming it for escalating poverty and hardship. The party also alleged that the administration has failed to explain how the savings from subsidy removal have been utilized, despite widespread suffering. The PDP highlighted the recent food stampedes in several states, which left dozens dead, as a tragic example of the nation’s dire situation under the APC.

The opposition party further criticized Tinubu’s claim that the economy has improved under his administration, citing the devaluation of the Naira to N1,700 per dollar, 34.6% inflation, and a 40% unemployment rate as indicators of worsening economic conditions. It also dismissed the president's assertion that Nigerians can now travel safely by road, pointing to ongoing issues of insecurity and deteriorating infrastructure.

Concluding, the PDP urged President Tinubu to experience the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians firsthand by traveling by road and visiting markets. The party called for urgent action to address critical sectors like agriculture, electricity, and small businesses to alleviate the nation’s economic challenges.
