Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the aegis of PDP Frontliners, have condemned former Kogi State governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, for his recent verbal attacks on the party's leadership. The group criticized Melaye for accusing the PDP leadership under Ambassador Umar Damagum of "commercializing and privatizing" the party, describing his comments as disrespectful and unwarranted.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Hussein Mohammed (President), Mr. Moses Abidemi (Secretary), and Mr. Dan Okafor (Publicity Secretary), the PDP Frontliners expressed concern over Melaye's remarks, stating that they are detrimental to the party’s unity and reputation. The group accused Melaye of neglecting his responsibilities during the last governorship election in Kogi State, leading to a poor performance where the party secured only 46,000 votes statewide.
The statement also highlighted Melaye's failure to distribute campaign funds and resources effectively, which they claim contributed to the party's loss. The PDP Frontliners emphasized that Melaye’s criticism of the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, is a deflection from his own shortcomings.
The group further alleged that Melaye's recent outburst was triggered by the PDP leadership’s decision to halt a manipulated process during the party’s ad-hoc delegates’ conference in Kogi State, which they believe Melaye was involved in. They accused him of attempting to commercialize and manipulate the party’s support base in the state.
Despite the ongoing crisis, the PDP Frontliners remain optimistic that the party will overcome its challenges and re-establish itself as a leading political force in Kogi State and across Nigeria.
