A leadership crisis erupted in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, over alleged disloyalty and insubordination. This decision, made by the Acting National Chairman, Illiya Damagum, and his team, directed the suspended officials to step aside while an investigation is conducted.
In a dramatic twist, just hours after the suspension, Debo Ologunagba issued his own statement announcing the suspension of Acting National Chairman Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. Ologunagba cited anti-party activities, accusing them of violating the party's constitution by interfering in an ongoing case involving former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The PDP’s NWC swiftly set up a committee led by Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, to investigate the allegations against Ologunagba and Ajibade. Both officials’ deputies were appointed to fill their roles in an acting capacity until the investigation is complete.
This internal conflict has left PDP members and stakeholders uncertain about the party's leadership, as both sides exchange accusations of misconduct. Both Damagum and Anyanwu now face further investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee.
