The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans for a detailed review of Saturday’s Ondo governorship election and its outcome, following the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Sunday, the party pledged to take decisive actions in defense of Nigeria’s democracy.

Ologunagba criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the election as the “worst ever conducted,” claiming it fell short of standards for free, fair, and credible polls.

“This election witnessed widespread election merchandising, monetisation, and barefaced vote buying by the APC and its apparatus in government, suppressing the genuine aspirations of the people,” Ologunagba alleged.

He called on Nigerians and the international community to take note of the irregularities and demanded urgent steps to safeguard the democratic process.

The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) is set to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the election as part of its next steps.
