The Nigeria Police Force has released the burial arrangements for former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69.
Arase, the 18th indigenous IGP, was celebrated by the Force for his leadership, philanthropy, and contributions to police reforms.
According to a programme of events signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the rites will commence in Abuja on September 24 with a Day of Tribute at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi.
Other key events include:
September 26: Requiem Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama.
September 27: Lying-in-state at his Abuja residence before departure to Edo State.
September 29: Candlelight procession in his hometown, Sabongida Ora.
October 2: Valedictory session organised by the Edo State Judiciary and the Nigerian Bar Association at the Edo State High Court, Benin; followed by a service of songs at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin.
October 3: Funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and interment at his private residence in Benin City, with a reception at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub.
October 5: Thanksgiving Mass to conclude the rites.
Arase, a recipient of national honours including CFR, was appointed IGP in April 2015 and retired in June 2016. He was also a PhD holder and widely regarded for championing modern policing strategies during his tenure.
