The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists after a violent clash between rival groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Badagry.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, saying the suspects, aged between 28 and 43, were apprehended during a coordinated operation that helped restore peace in the affected communities.
According to Adebisi, the police received a distress call around 10 p.m. on Saturday about a fight between rival cult groups. A tactical team was immediately deployed to the scene, where officers rescued three injured victims who were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Unfortunately, one of the victims was confirmed dead by doctors at Badagry General Hospital,” she said.
Adebisi added that a follow-up raid led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be directly involved in the clash and killing.
Items recovered from the suspects include one locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two used shells, a Toyota Avalon (KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other weapons.
She stated that the suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track down other cult members who escaped the scene, with heightened patrols and surveillance in place to prevent further violence.
