Police in Zamfara have arrested a well-known bandit, 57-year-old Muhammadu Dan Kani, also called Akki. He was picked up in Funtua, Katsina State, after intelligence reports linked him to several kidnapping cases.

When they caught him, officers found 11 locally made guns, 25 AK-47 bullets, and six cartridges. Investigations are still on to track where the weapons came from and who else is involved.

In another operation, police stopped a Toyota Corolla during patrol and discovered four AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of ammo, 28 bullets, and four empty magazines cleverly hidden inside a sack of oranges. The driver, Nasuru Dawan Jiya, confessed he was taking the weapons to bandits in Gurusu Village.

Earlier this month, on September 19, police also arrested two men on motorcycles along the Gusau–Sokoto road with 18 locally made guns.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, said these arrests show the police are serious about flushing out criminals. He assured the people of Zamfara that the police will keep working to make the state safer, and he encouraged residents to share any useful information to help the fight against crime.
