The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two children who were abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to Wakil, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when one Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani reported that his children — Halima (12) and Mohammed (6) — had been kidnapped by an unknown man while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately swung into action, visited the scene, and commenced a detailed investigation,” Wakil stated.
He explained that an eyewitness reported seeing a man pick up the children in a tricycle. Later, the suspect contacted the family using a foreign phone number and demanded ₦50 million as ransom to avoid being traced.
“After negotiation, he agreed to collect ₦1.2 million, to be delivered at Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi,” Wakil added.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives laid an ambush at the location and arrested the suspect while he attempted to collect the ransom.
Further investigation led the team to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two abducted children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.
Wakil identified the suspect as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a relative of the victims. During interrogation, Tasiu confessed to the crime, claiming he acted out of resentment toward his uncle.
