The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows and foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt in separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the police, operatives attached to the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, after receiving a distress call that seven cows had been stolen from a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.
Babaseyi said officers immediately launched a coordinated operation and mounted surveillance along major exit routes.
Acting on credible intelligence, the suspects were intercepted along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway while attempting to flee with the stolen livestock.
The operation led to the arrest of the two suspects, the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows and the seizure of the vehicle allegedly used for the operation.
Police said efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining cow, arrest other members of the syndicate and ensure everyone involved is brought to justice.
In another operation, officers of the Safer Highway Patrol Team foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt on July 26 at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the command, patrol officers responded after hearing gunshots in the area.
Their swift arrival forced the armed suspects to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush.
The intended victim was rescued unharmed and escorted, along with his vehicle, to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary procedures.
