Operatives from the Zone 7 Police Command Headquarters, overseeing the Federal Capital Territory, have arrested suspects involved in car snatching, armed robbery, and murder. The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Niger State Police Command, led to the recovery of stolen vehicles, firearms, laptops, and more.
Zone 7's Police Public Relations Officer, M.B. Abdulkadir, disclosed the arrests in a statement at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, as reported by the Nigeria Police Force’s X handle. Four suspects — Solomon Nuhu, 22; Faruk Umar, 17; Bolaji Yusuf, 34; and Lawal Yusuf, 38 — were apprehended for crimes including car snatching, robbery, possession of a prohibited firearm, murder, and criminal conspiracy.
Police detectives attached to the Special Investigation Squad of Zone 7 Headquarters successfully apprehended Haruna Akubo, aka Young Alhaji, recovering five stolen vehicles from L.Y. Nadabo Motors in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State. Additional suspects, Bolaji Yusuf and Abubakar Umar, were arrested at Heart Plaza, Maraba, with vehicle master keys, stolen phones, and car keys in their possession.
Further investigations led to the recovery of 32 phones and a 9mm Beretta pistol from Faruk Umar. The pistol was traced back to Solomon Nuhu, who purchased it from Umar for N130,000. Police also recovered stolen vehicles in Ankpa LGA of Kogi State, including a Lexus IS 250 whose owner was killed during the carjacking. The killer, Ibrahim Umar, aka Godiya, remains at large.
A total of 10 vehicles with altered chassis numbers were recovered, alongside laptops and mobile phones. Assistant Inspector-General of Police Ogundele Ayodeji has ordered a comprehensive investigation, with the suspects to be charged in court. He urged FCT residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police, reassuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and properties.
