On Friday, August 2, police deployed teargas canisters to disperse protesters gathered at Berger roundabout in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The authorities directed protesters to relocate to Moshood Abiola Stadium for their demonstration to ensure it remained peaceful.

The nationwide protest, which began on Thursday, August 1, aimed at addressing economic hardships, saw widespread participation. While the initial phase was largely peaceful, some regions experienced violence, though Abuja reported no fatalities. In response, security, particularly military forces, are now guarding key private and government buildings.

Following the unrest, security measures have been heightened with significant protection around major sites like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and NNPC towers. Despite minor disturbances at Berger, Abuja remains generally calm, with a police helicopter monitoring the Central Business District.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had earlier placed the police on high alert and urged citizens to stay calm amidst the ongoing situation.
