The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the withdrawal of all police officers assigned to the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, as confirmed in a police wireless message seen on Friday. The directive, contained in document CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/ 34, stated, "IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello."
Following this development, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) placed the former governor on its watchlist. This action was taken after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted in connection to an alleged money laundering case totaling N80.2 billion.
A circular from the NIS dated April 18, 2024, and signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, detailed the former governor's name, nationality, and passport number (B50083321). This step by the NIS comes amidst ongoing investigations into the allegations against Yahaya Bello.
The withdrawal of police personnel from Yahaya Bello's security detail and the NIS's watchlist placement mark significant developments in the unfolding situation surrounding the former governor's legal issues. Efforts to reach Yahaya Bello or his representatives for comment on these latest developments have been unsuccessful thus far.
