Political Turmoil in Rivers State as Two Commissioners Resign Amidst Allegations of Interference

Rivers

The political crisis in Rivers State continues to escalate as two commissioners, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor and Isaac Kamalu, submitted their resignation letters yesterday. Adangor, formerly the commissioner and Attorney-General in the Justice Ministry, was redeployed to Special Duties (Governor’s Office), while Kamalu was moved from Finance to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

Adangor cited Governor Siminalayi Fubara's interference in his duties as the reason for his resignation, while Kamalu stated that he could no longer work in a hostile environment. Both commissioners submitted their resignation letters to Fubara through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo.

Governor Fubara, through the SSG's office, announced the immediate redeployment of Adangor and Kamalu and directed them to hand over to the permanent secretaries of their ministries. In response, the governor appeared to boast about his decision-making, claiming he had been making the right decisions since taking office.

Adangor, in his resignation letter, expressed his unwillingness to continue serving in Fubara's administration, citing the governor's directive not to defend, oppose, or appear in any case against his office and the state government. Kamalu, in his letter, expressed disappointment in the lack of peace in the state despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's intervention, and stated that he would not accept his redeployment.
