Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended a pregnant woman for orchestrating her own kidnapping and demanding N2 million ransom from her husband. The woman reportedly collaborated with a man suspected to be her boyfriend, with whom she shared the ransom money.
FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh, who disclosed this while parading the suspects, stated that the incident occurred when the woman, identified as Rosemary Ubah, went missing after purportedly leaving for the hospital. Her husband, Chiedozie Ubah, received a call from her phone informing him of the supposed kidnapping and demanding the ransom.
"After transferring the money into his wife’s account as instructed, he brought her to the police station after her release," Igweh said. "During interrogation, the wife confessed to conspiring with a man named Walter Ezeala, who lives on the same street, to extort money from her husband. Walter was arrested and confessed to receiving N800,000 from the ransom."
