Recent reports alleging that Microsoft is closing its Nigerian office have been refuted by the presidency. The news, which circulated widely online, claimed that Microsoft was exiting Nigeria, sparking discussions among netizens.
Temitope Ajayi, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, took to social media to clarify the situation. He emphasized that the Africa Development Centre (ADC) is simply a department within Microsoft's operations in Nigeria and is not being shut down.
Ajayi explained that Microsoft, like any organization, is restructuring its operations, which may result in a few roles being affected. Less than 30 employees will be impacted, and they will have the opportunity to apply for new roles within Microsoft. Those unable to find new positions or who choose to explore other opportunities will be assisted in transitioning out of the company.
Contrary to sensationalized reports, the situation at Microsoft is described as a routine re-alignment of roles and not the dramatic event it has been portrayed as.
