President Bola Tinubu addressed world leaders at the 19th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, highlighting Nigeria's commitment to eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development.
The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, is themed *“Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet”* and focuses on economic, social, and environmental sustainability, as well as reforms in global governance.
In his speech, President Tinubu endorsed the creation of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative spearheaded by President Lula, which seeks to unite governments, international organizations, and civil society to tackle both immediate and structural causes of hunger.
“This initiative aligns with my administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and underscores Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging international cooperation to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, particularly zero hunger and poverty eradication,” Tinubu stated on his verified X account.
The Nigerian leader also emphasized the need for reforms in the United Nations Security Council to reflect global diversity and advocated for Nigeria's readiness to represent Africa on the council.
Additionally, President Tinubu called for urgent reforms in global taxation to ensure equitable development and bridge the North-South divide, aiming to create a fairer global financial system.
His remarks underscore Nigeria's proactive stance in fostering international collaboration to address pressing global challenges.
