President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 9, at the State House during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee.
The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other cabinet members.
As of now, no minister has been appointed to head the new ministry.
This development follows President Tinubu's approval on September 15, 2023, to establish a Presidential Committee focused on reforming the livestock industry and providing long-term solutions to the recurring clashes between herders and farmers. The committee's formation came after the submission of a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
