President Bola Tinubu has approved the extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, for the next six months until the end of the year. This announcement was made during his address at the inauguration of the Abuja metro rail's commencement of operations on Wednesday.
Initially, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had announced a two-month period of free train rides to ease commuting burdens for residents of the Federal Capital Territory. However, President Tinubu appealed for an extension to the end of the year to provide residents with hope and reasons to celebrate.
“Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate,” Tinubu said.
The extended free train rides are expected to significantly benefit FCT residents, offering them a reprieve from commuting costs and enhancing their daily transportation experience.
