President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to his longtime associate and former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as he marks his 68th birthday.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded Osinbajo's dedication and service to the nation, highlighting their deep personal and professional relationship. Tinubu described Osinbajo as not just a close ally but also a friend and brother, reflecting on their shared journey in politics and governance.
The President acknowledged Osinbajo’s remarkable contributions during his tenure as Vice President from 2015 to 2023, where he worked closely with former President Muhammadu Buhari to drive the country’s governance initiatives and implement critical infrastructure projects.
Reflecting on their enduring partnership, Tinubu recalled Osinbajo’s role as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice during his own tenure as Governor of Lagos State, emphasizing the profound impact Osinbajo had on political and judicial reforms in the state.
Tinubu also expressed appreciation for Osinbajo’s leadership during his time as Acting President when Buhari took a medical leave, commending his statesmanship in a time of national importance.
Despite Osinbajo’s decision to contest in the 2023 presidential primaries, Tinubu emphasized that their political rivalry had not strained their personal bond. He praised Osinbajo for his contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that their collaboration and mutual respect remained strong throughout their political careers.
President Tinubu stated:
"Professor Yemi Osinbajo will always remain my friend and associate. He served our country meritoriously as Vice President to that patriotic leader, President Muhammadu Buhari. He made all of us in the APC proud by working collaboratively and harmoniously with the president without rancour."
The President concluded his message by joining Osinbajo's family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating his achievements and wishing him continued success and good health in the years ahead.
