In commemoration of his first anniversary in office, President Bola Tinubu has directed his ministers to present their performance reports to Nigerians. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, stating that the low-key celebration would feature sectoral media briefings by the 47 federal ministers starting on Thursday. Idris was joined by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu.

President Tinubu was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1, 2023. He secured 8.7 million votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. Emphasizing performance, Tinubu has stated that ministers would retain their offices based on quarterly reviews. The Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU) has already trained 140 officials to track and assess the performance of federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

During a three-day cabinet retreat on November 1, 2023, President Tinubu reiterated that his administration is committed to economic revitalization, social inclusion, and infrastructural development. The CDCU, headed by the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, has received performance reports from 20 of the 35 ministries. These assessments are based on deliverables set for the ministers, with input from citizens and industry experts via the Citizens Delivery Tracker app.

The Tinubu administration has implemented significant reforms, such as ending the fuel subsidy regime, which increased fuel and transportation costs but aimed to stabilize the economy. The government has allocated substantial funds to agriculture and small and medium-sized enterprises, launched a consumer credit fund, and introduced a student loan scheme. In infrastructure, the administration initiated a renewable housing program and promoted energy-efficient transportation. International agencies have recognized these efforts, and the Central Bank of Nigeria has undertaken reforms to address the forex crisis and stimulate economic growth.
