President Tinubu Presides Over 18th Federal Executive Council Meeting After Six-Week Hiatus

President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the 18th meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Aso Chambers in the State House, Abuja. This marks the first meeting in six weeks, following the President's recent diplomatic engagements in Equatorial Guinea, China, and the United Kingdom.

Arriving at the chamber at 12:25 p.m., President Tinubu is meeting with 21 of his 47-member cabinet today. Key officials present include Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Notable ministers in attendance are:

  • Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy: Wale Edun
  • Agriculture and Food Security: Abubakar Kyari
  • Budget and Economic Planning: Abubakar Bagudu
  • Aviation and Aerospace Development: Festus Keyamo
  • Education: Prof. Tahir Mamman
  • Federal Capital Territory: Nyesom Wike
  • Information and National Orientation: Mohammed Idris
  • Interior: Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo

Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima is representing Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, alongside various cabinet members.

Before the meeting began, the council observed a minute of silence in memory of former Minister of Women and Youth Development, Salome Jankada, who passed away on August 27, 2024.

While the specific agenda for today’s meeting remains unclear, reports suggest it includes a series of memoranda for approving various projects from multiple ministries.
