President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Abuja on Sunday night, following a 16-day diplomatic tour that included key engagements in the People's Republic of China and a brief stopover in the United Kingdom. He touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at around 10:40 p.m., where he was received by senior members of his administration.

The president’s official visit began on September 2 with a meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China. During the visit, Nigeria and China signed five significant Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), covering areas such as the Belt and Road Initiative, peaceful nuclear energy applications, media exchange, and infrastructure development.

Key agreements include:

  • A Cooperation Plan to jointly promote the Belt and Road Initiative.
  • A $1 billion iron ore-to-steel project in Kogi State between Nigerian company Capstone Integrated Limited and China’s Sinomach-He.
  • A contract for the construction of a 68 km Lagos Green Rail Line, connecting the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, to be executed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

While in China, President Tinubu also visited Huawei and CHEC, underscoring Nigeria's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with China.

The President later traveled to the United Kingdom, where he met with King Charles III on Thursday to discuss climate change and international cooperation.

Tinubu’s return marks the conclusion of a series of high-level talks aimed at fostering stronger international ties and facilitating developmental projects in Nigeria.
