President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit. The summit, scheduled for January 27–28, will focus on “Mission 300,” a continental initiative aimed at providing electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
Organized by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, the event will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to tackle Africa’s energy challenges.
A key highlight of the summit will be the presentation of national energy strategies—referred to as compacts—outlining each country’s approach to achieving universal energy access over the next five years. On the final day, leaders will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a roadmap designed to fast-track progress towards the Mission 300 goals.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu is set to deliver a keynote address emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to energy development and its leadership in advancing Africa’s energy sector. He will also showcase Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives, renewable energy projects, and integrated energy solutions.
Joining the President’s delegation are key officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen.
The summit will prioritize transformative dialogue on energy efficiency, renewable energy investments, and bridging access gaps, particularly in underserved regions. It will also highlight the private sector’s role in fostering sustainable energy solutions.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after the summit, continuing his administration’s focus on energy reforms and regional collaboration to drive socio-economic development across Africa.
