Presidents Tinubu and Ramaphosa Discuss Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation in Private Meeting

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa held a private meeting on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa, emphasizing the need for closer collaboration between their countries. The meeting took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel and was detailed in a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Before their closed-door discussions, President Ramaphosa expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for attending his second-term inauguration. "Thank you so much for coming for the inauguration. I was very happy to see my brother at the ceremony," said the South African President.

President Tinubu reciprocated the sentiment, praising Ramaphosa's inaugural speech for addressing common challenges faced by African nations and advocating for enhanced cooperation among leaders and citizens. "I really enjoyed your speech at the ceremony. I was delighted listening to you. We have lots of issues in common, and we need to work more closely together. It was a good celebration," Tinubu remarked.

President Ramaphosa secured his second term in office on Friday, June 14, 2024, following a Government of National Unity agreement between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance.

The private meeting between the two leaders underscores the importance of Nigeria-South Africa relations and their commitment to addressing shared challenges through strengthened bilateral cooperation.
