Civil society organisations loyal to the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party on Wednesday staged a protest at the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the inclusion of the party’s candidates in the upcoming nationwide bye-elections.
Dozens of protesters arrived at the Abuja office around 11:00 a.m., carrying banners and placards with messages like: “INEC, who is using you against LP,” “Mahmood stop destroying democracy in Nigeria,” and “Tell INEC to obey court orders.”
The demonstrators maintained a peaceful stance while urging the electoral body to comply with legal directives and uphold democratic principles in handling the internal disputes within the party.
