PRODIGALITY VERSUS RESTRAINT: Nigeria Wasted $500,000 At COP 28, Will Be Prudent Henceforth

prodigality

My country has perfected the ignoble art of profligacy without restraint that it has become second nature. Or how else does one rationalize the outcome of a Presidential audit, that reveals that Nigerian govt, wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars at the 2023 convention on climate change, aka COP 28.

The amount, we are told, we expended on wasteful contracts and sundry consultancies plus other avoidable expenses. Countries to the important conference, including more populous ones, aren’t with far less delegates, but not us. This year’s conference, COP 29, is scheduled for Baku, Azerbaijan, and, thankfully, Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu, was committed to prudence and efficiency aimed at curbing waste and prodigality.

If this must be believed, then a tacit approval, by Mr President, of delegation size and expenses ahead of COP 29, must mean that we are on the way to national restraint from prodigality. Shall we interrogate the subject?
