A group of demonstrators gathered at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, demanding the resignation of the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. The protest follows Ganduje's recent suspension by a faction of his ward executives and bribery allegations from the Kano State government. The protesters chanted solidarity songs and displayed banners urging Ganduje to step down and advocating for the return of the APC chairmanship to the North Central region.
The agitation comes shortly after the Forum of APC State Chairmen expressed confidence in Ganduje and endorsed him to remain as national chairman. However, the protesters, under the Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders, argued that Ganduje's continued tenure violates the party's zoning process.
Leader of the demonstrators, Mohammed Mahmud Saba, stated that while the 37 APC state chairmen support Ganduje, the North Central region has passed a vote of no confidence in him and demands his immediate resignation. Saba emphasized that the North Central region feels betrayed, as they believe the position of APC national chairman was rightfully theirs following the exit of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
The protesters called for Ganduje to resign immediately and for the party to respect the zoning arrangements made at the 2022 National Convention, which allocated the office of the national chairman to the North Central region. They urged APC governors in the North Central to mobilize against Ganduje's continued tenure until their demands are met.
