Protesters scrambled for safety at the Lekki toll-gate area of Lagos State amid a heavy security presence. The Nation observed that security operatives, including members of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Army, were strategically positioned at the toll-gate.
A security operative addressed the protesters, directing them to join others at designated locations. However, when the protesters defied the order, the police used teargas to disperse them.
This action follows a Lagos State High Court ruling on Tuesday that restricted protesters to specific locations within the state. Justice Emmanuel Ogundare, ruling on an ex parte application by Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), ordered that protests could only take place at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota and Peace Park in Ketu.
