Protesters gathered at the Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos on Wednesday morning as Nigeria marked Democracy Day 2024, despite a heavy security presence in the area. The demonstrators, numbering in the hundreds, chanted solidarity songs while carrying placards and banners with slogans such as "President Tinubu, let the poor breathe", "For another general strike with mass protest now", and "Payment of living wage to all Nigerian workers now."
The Lagos State Police Command has stated that it does not have information regarding the alleged arrest of activist Juwon Sanyaolu, who was reported to be one of the organizers of the planned protest. The protesters' demands appear to be related to economic issues, as evidenced by their calls for a living wage and references to the poor.
