Rangers FC and Celebrities to Honour Late Actor Mr. Ibu with Novelty Match

Rangers International Football Club, along with celebrities and fans, will today honour the late Nollywood actor John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, with a novelty match celebrating his illustrious comedy career. The event, part of Mr. Ibu’s burial plans, will feature Rangers FC, the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League champions, basking in the glory of their recent triumph.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for Mr. Ibu’s burial, Monday Ani, stated that the match is a tribute to Mr. Ibu, acknowledging his contributions and the appreciation of the Enugu State government. The match will take place at the Cathedral of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, starting at 4 pm today.

Ani expressed gratitude to key supporters, including Rangers FC General Manager Amobi Ezeaku and Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Lloyd Ekweremmadu, for their pivotal roles in organizing the event. Donations for Mr. Ibu’s funeral continue, with the committee thanking everyone for their support.

Mr. Ibu, who passed away on March 2, 2024, had suffered health issues, including an ankle infection that led to the amputation of one of his legs in November 2023. His family confirmed the necessity of the procedure to save his life.
