The Nigerian Red Cross Society has raised a serious alarm, warning that more than 33 million Nigerians could face severe hunger and malnutrition in 2026 if swift, coordinated action is not taken.
Speaking in Abuja during the launch of the organisation’s new Nutrition Advocacy Plan, the Secretary-General, Dr. Abubakar Kende, said the situation requires urgent attention from the government, humanitarian groups, and private sector partners.
At the event, the Red Cross also honoured Ambassador Layla Ali Othman, naming her the organisation’s Nutrition Ambassador. Kende expressed optimism that her involvement would help amplify efforts to tackle the growing hunger crisis.
