The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes has called for a thorough investigation into the recent deaths of two operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)—Assistant Superintendent Aminu Sahabi Salisu and Investigative Officer Remedy S. Yange.
In a condolence letter addressed to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, and signed by the committee’s Clerk, Austen Adesoro, the lawmakers expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and emphasized the need to uncover the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Mysterious Circumstances Raise Concerns
According to the letter, Salisu was reportedly murdered by a suspected internet fraudster in Enugu, while Yange collapsed and died suddenly in Lagos under questionable circumstances.
“The cold-blooded murder and sudden collapse of these gallant, young, and fearless patriots are one too many, especially when one was allegedly killed by a suspected internet fraudster, and the other died under circumstances that require full investigation,” the statement read.
Lawmakers Call for Justice
The House Committee on Financial Crimes emphasized that the country must not allow criminal elements to thrive at the expense of law enforcement officers risking their lives to sanitize the financial sector.
“Those who have chosen to live dangerously on the fast lane by indulging in heinous financial crimes—bringing untold calamity on innocent citizens—will never have the last laugh in our joint national commitment to sanitize the financial sector of the Nigerian economy.”
The committee extended its deepest condolences to the EFCC leadership, the Enugu and Benue Zonal Commands, and the families of the deceased.
Push for Accountability
The House of Representatives urged the EFCC to conduct a comprehensive probe into the deaths and ensure that justice is served.
“While we call for a thorough investigation into the real cause of the deaths of these noble men, it is our prayer that the souls of Aminu Sahabi Salisu and Remedy S. Yange find eternal rest.”
As Nigeria continues its fight against financial crimes, the tragic loss of these operatives underscores the dangers anti-corruption officers face daily. The outcome of this investigation will be closely watched to ensure justice and accountability.
