Rivers Assembly Issues Arrest Warrant for RSIEC Chairman Over Failure to Appear

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), after he failed to appear before the lawmakers following multiple summons.

The decision came on Monday during a plenary session, after the 72-hour ultimatum given to Enebeli expired without his compliance.

Last week, the lawmakers extended the deadline from 48 to 72 hours to allow Enebeli to answer questions regarding the nullified October 2024 local government elections. The RSIEC chairman, who was expected to appear alongside other commissioners, did not attend the session.

In response to the lawmakers' actions, Enebeli and his commissioners filed a lawsuit at the State High Court, challenging the House's resolutions.
