The 23 newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee Chairmen (CTC) in Rivers State have not yet assumed office following their swearing-in by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Despite being screened by four House of Assembly members and immediately sworn in on Wednesday, the chairmen have yet to take over the council areas, with police operatives still occupying the secretariats.
Reports from The Nation reveal that as of 11 am on Wednesday, the gates of the Obio-Akpor council remained locked, with over 40 police officers and several trucks maintaining surveillance. Personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were also stationed at the gates.

Members of the public were seen waiting around the council area, anticipating the arrival of the new chairmen. One local resident expressed disappointment, stating, "We thought our new LGA chairman, Comrade Chijioke Ihunwo, would come here from the Government House to take over the council. We came to welcome him, but it seems he will not come now. So I have to go home and come back later."
The delay in the new chairmen assuming their roles has left many residents in a state of uncertainty, as they await the official transition and the commencement of new leadership in their respective council areas.
