Rivers Governor Blasts Politics of Bitterness Amidst Senate Visit Dispute

Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly criticized what he describes as the prevailing politics of bitterness in the state. He alleged that his senator, Barry Mpigi, attempted to prevent members of the Senate Adhoc Committee on Turnaround Maintenance of Nigerian Refineries from paying him a customary visit. Mpigi, who represents Rivers Southeast, was notably absent when the committee, led by Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Uba, visited Fubara in Government House.

Fubara, who belongs to a different political camp from Mpigi, accused the senator of trying to obstruct the committee's visit. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the people's interests over political differences and warned against disrespecting individuals in authority.

Despite the political tensions, Governor Fubara affirmed his administration's commitment to governance focused on improving the lives of the people. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Road, aimed at easing transportation and supporting the revival of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

The Senate Committee, led by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, visited the Port Harcourt Refinery to assess the progress of the ongoing maintenance work. Senator Ubah expressed optimism that the refinery would soon be operational, reducing Nigeria's dependence on imported petroleum products and boosting the economy.
