Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara and his entourage were unable to gain access to the Assembly Quarters of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival at the Assembly Quarters, located along Aba Road, Fubara and some members of his executive council found the gate locked. Fubara, dressed in a white outfit with a red cap, explained that he was at the Assembly to re-present the 2026 Appropriation Bill in compliance with a recent Supreme Court ruling.

Accompanying the Governor were Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff, and Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

“I am here to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill in line with the Supreme Court’s judgment,” the Governor remarked, expressing frustration as the gate remained locked.

Fubara noted that he had made numerous attempts to contact Speaker Martins Amaewhule and other lawmakers but was unsuccessful. He also mentioned sending a formal letter to the Speaker inviting him to re-present the budget, but had yet to receive a response.

“I came here this morning with a few of my EXCO members to comply with the Supreme Court judgment. Prior to this visit, I made several attempts by phone to reach the Speaker and others, and even sent a letter to the Speaker. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the gate was completely sealed, and there was no sign that anything would take place today,” Fubara said.

He stressed that his actions were motivated by the best interests of the state and its people, reiterating that he was only fulfilling his duties.

“I don’t think there is anything to worry about; maybe they are still working on the letter. I expect to hear from them later today,” Fubara added.
